Art Basel Miami Beach has become synonymous for a few days in early December when the art and design world descends upon Miami for a one big party. It's warmer there too, so this year we decided to go. Now in its sixth year, ABMB is the anchor for a variety of art fairs, design shows and happenings all over the city. Outdoor events like the Container Exhibit by the beach and the Iggy concert on the beach were part of the Art Basel opening. Design Miami opened with the One Laptop Per Child exhibition at Luminaire, Shigeru Ban’s pavilion for Artek (made out of recycled adhesive labels), a floor of the Moore Building devoted to the work of Designer of the Year Tokujin Yoshioka and new work by the Hilton Brothers at Kartell. The Teasy Rider shuttle, a moving installation took us from the Cartier Dome to Scope Miami, another fair in the Wynwood Art District… a first glimpse after the jump. More next week.
